Overview

Immerse yourself in the culinary and natural delights of Western Australia’s southwest corner, with stays in Margaret River and the Karri Forest region. Then, the Indian Pacific awaits to whisk you on a rail journey unlike any other across the belly of Australia from Perth to Sydney, disembarking in Barossa Valley, Kalgoorlie, Cook, Broken Hill and the Blue Mountains for time to explore.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Perth

Arrive in Perth and enjoy time to settle in to your hotel before a memorable welcome dinner this evening.

Day 2: Margaret River

This morning, travel to the stunning Mandoon Estate for a Signature Experience. Afterwards, Continue on to Pullman Bunker Bay, your home for the next two nights.

Signature Experience – Bush Tucker Talk and Tasting

At Mandoon Estate, join Noongar Elder, Dale Tilbrook, for a bush tucker talk and tasting. Be enthralled as Dale shares stories from decades gone by, learn about different native food and medicinal plants, and sample delicious bush tucker for lunch.

Day 3: Margaret River

Begin your day out in nature at Canal Rocks, a remote granite coastline chiselled by the crashing waves of the Indian Ocean. Admire spectacular views of the sea and the narrow channel below as you follow the timber walkways across the rocks. Afterwards, discover Margaret River’s outstanding produce. Start with a visit to a local chocolate factory, located on a peaceful and picturesque rural property just 20 minutes from Margaret River. Visitors are treated to free chocolate tastings, interactive displays, viewing windows to watch the chocolate products being made and a friendly atmosphere. After your Signature Experience lunch, enjoy time at leisure at your resort to enjoy the facilities.

Signature Experience – Leeuwin Estate

Enjoy a tour, tasting and seasonal lunch at Leeuwin Estate. Celebrating the combination of fine wine, food, art and music, Leeuwin features an award-winning restaurant, cellar door and art gallery.

Day 4: Margaret River, Karri Forest, Pemberton

Start your day with a tour of Jewel Cave, a magical crystal-encrusted wonder comprising of three massive chambers. It is also home to one of the longest straw stalactites found in any tourist cave in Australia. Stroll the grounds of Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, the tallest light house on mainland Australia, where the Indian and Southern oceans meet. Learn how this famous landmark was constructed from local limestone in 1985 and is still a vital working lighthouse for vessels navigating the treacherous cape. Later, arrive at Karri Valley Resort and enjoy the afternoon at leisure. Perhaps climb into a kayak and enjoy a paddle on Lake Beedelup. You may also enjoy a hike through native bushland to the soothing Beedelup Falls, which cascade down a series of rockfaces between stands of giant karri trees.

Day 5: Truffle Hill, Karri Valley Resort

Venture to the heart of truffle country today, where you’ll have the opportunity to indulge in some of the world’s finest black Périgord truffles. Sample truffle-infused products before lunch. After, head to Pemberton to board the Pemberton Tram, which transports guests through deep forests and picturesque countryside as well as recreating the history of the timber railways that were so important to the region’s development and growth. Following a Signature Experience dinner at Jaspers Bar, enjoy a restful evening at the Karri Valley Resort on the edge of the tranquil Lake Beedelup.

Dine like a local on expertly prepared seasonal cuisine at Jaspers Bar in the heart of Pemberton this evening. Renowned for its gourmet food, selection of outstanding local wines and the finest collection of whisky and bourbon in southwest Western Australia, Jaspers is the perfect place to unwind after a day exploring the region.

Day 6: Perth, Board the Indian Pacific

Return to Perth today, and transfer to the East Perth Terminal to board the iconic Indian Pacific, your rolling home for the next four nights on your journey across Australia.

Day 7: Kalgoorlie, Cook

Arriving in Kalgoorlie this morning, you’ll step into the Australia’s outback and its rich gold-rush history. Visit the Super Pit, one of the world’s largest open-cut gold mines, where a new private lookout offers a sweeping view of this vast excavation site. Take in the scale of the mining operations before reboarding your train, ready to embark on the great crossing of the Nullarbor Plain. This afternoon, unwind on board as the endless ochre landscapes unfold beyond your window. You may like to sit down for a barista-made coffee or glass of wine in the Outback Explorer Lounge, watching as the land unfolds beyond the carriage windows. Your train crosses into South Australia and stops in the small town of Cook this evening, where you’ll enjoy a late-night bonfire and stargazing experience with a nightcap.

Day 8: Barossa Valley

Red wine connoisseurs rejoice as your train glides to South Australia’s Barossa Valley, home to the world’s oldest continuously producing shiraz, grenache, mataro, cabernet sauvignon and semillon vines. En route, pass the Flinders Range, Spencer Gulf and the Adelaide Plaines before rolling to a stop. The Barossa Valley boasts more than 150 wineries and 80 cellar doors of which you have an abundance of wine tastings to choose from. This evening, indulge in an exclusive wine pairing experience in Seppeltsfield Winery’s vintage cellar. Your chef will serve locally sourced meals, each paired perfectly with a glass of wine. Following dinner, return to the Indian Pacific for the next leg of your trip.

Day 9: Barossa Valley, Broken Hill

During the night your train crosses the border into New South Wales, coming to a stop in Broken Hill by morning. Known for its stark outback landscape, there is so much more to Broken Hill than meets the eye. The town is home to a vibrant arts scene, fascinating mining history and a unique gin distillery. After breakfast on board, disembark and spend time exploring one of Australia’s most famous Outback towns on an array of available Off Train Experiences. After time in the Silver City, return to your train for lunch as your train continues through regional New South Wales. Spend the remainder of the day indulging in your onboard facilities: perhaps unwind in the Outback Explorer Lounge with a drink while watching the scenery transform outside the carriage windows. Dinner this evening is in the onboard Queen Adelaide Restaurant, which echoes the sophisticated golden era of train travel with white tablecloths, decadent dishes and a selection of wines.

Day 10: Blue Mountains, Depart Sydney

After breakfast, farewell the Indian Pacific and board a coach for the World-Heritage-listed Blue Mountains. Admire the famous mountains shrouded in a smoky haze, caused by the fine oil released into the air by the giant eucalyptus trees that blanket the landscape. Here, enjoy the luxury of choice of how you’d like to explore. Perhaps admire 360-degree views on the Scenic Skyway or Scenic Cableway, embark on the steepest passenger railway in the world aboard the Scenic Railway, or join a guided walk to a spectacular viewpoint. Savour a light lunch at the nearby Echo Point Lookout in Katoomba, before returning to Sydney via a chartered New South Wales rail service. Your exciting journey comes to an end on arrival in Sydney.
