Carved from a rugged sea rock and accessible only by a scenic causeway, this secluded haven exudes an air of mystery and timeless beauty. It’s very name, meaning ‘single passage’, reflects the remoteness and allure of this extraordinary destination. The day is yours to explore at your own pace—perhaps take a leisurely hike to the top of the hill, where breathtaking panoramic views of the sparkling sea await, offering a truly unforgettable experience. Disembark your ship this morning and travel towards the quaint village of Plaka. From there, you’ll board a small boat for a short ride to Spinalonga Island, located at the entrance of Elounda Bay. Once an Italian fortress and one of the last strongholds to fall to Ottoman rule, Spinalonga later became a leper colony, remaining active until the mid-20th century. Today, this abandoned island is a fascinating historical site that draws numerous visitors. After exploring the island, you’ll return to Plaka to savor authentic Greek snacks and a glass of raki at a traditional local tavern. Çeşme is located on a promontory on the tip of a peninsula that carries the same name. The town itself is dominated by the medieval Çeşme Castle, while the back streets invite a casual stroll with their old Ottoman and Greek houses that charm passers-by. South of the castle there is an Ottoman caravanserai built in 1528 that has since been transformed into a lovely boutique hotel, and check the Greek Orthodox church of Ayios Haralambos. Dock in Kuşadası this morning where you’ll join a guided tour to explore one of the most remarkable archaeological sites in the world—the ancient city of Ephesus. Spend time at leisure in the charming town, soaking in panoramic views over the Bay of Patmos and the surrounding islands of the archipelago. Arrive in Rhodes, the most renowned of the Dodecanese Islands, and be captivated by the stunning architecture of the Old Town, a fascinating blend of styles that reflect the island’s diverse history. Set out on an included tour to Lindos, passing picturesque villages, vineyards and olive groves. Lindos has been officially designated an Archaeological site, and its architecture includes Byzantine influences. On arrival, your guide will walk with you through the narrow cobblestone streets to the foot of the ancient Acropolis. From there, walk up to the Acropolis and be rewarded with the sight of the Doric Temple of Lindian Athena, enclosed within the walls of a Crusader-era castle. From the Acropolis, you will have an incredible view of the village, the sea and the small fishing harbor of Psarto, where legend has it St. Paul landed to bring Christianity to the region. On your return to Lindos village, you will visit the church and have some free time to explore before returning to your ship.
